[SPECIAL] Slipping You All a Mickey

Inspired by the vintage Spillane paperbacks I've been finding lately—and finally having processed my thoughts on the Spillane adaptations I've been watching since I discovered THE GIRL HUNTERS earlier this year—I'm going to do a mini-cluster of postings all revolving around the world of Spillane.

First I'll tackle the 1982 adaptation of I, THE JURY, a strange mish-mash of TV-cop-show-isms, Larry Cohen-levels of taboos being busted, terribly misjudged comedy routines, and—according to Spillane collaborator Max Allan Collins—the only screen adaptation to accurately capture the "berserk" levels of sex and violence that make up the warp and woof of the original's grain.

Second I'll post my single favorite series of Spillane covers, Corgi's minimalist, high-concept designs from the '60s. And then on to an in-depth review of the first (and best) telefilm starring Stacy Keach, 1983's MURDER ME, MURDER YOU.

After that it'll be back to regularly scheduled programming (with several more Krimi- and Giallo-specific posts already in the queue). Looking forward to it.
